Eyeglass Clinic at Bang Na slum and Concordia Day Care Center


Today we left the hotel early to setup for eyeglass clinic at Concordia Day Care Center in Bangkok. The center is in the neighborhood of the Bang Na slum, made up of 109 families and 2,249 total people.

We met with the children in the day care to greet and sing some songs together about Jesus.


The team then toured the surrounding neighborhood, Band Na, to say "hello" to the residents and invite them to the eyeglass clinic. The walk gave us all better perspective into the lives of those we are serving today. We visited the inside of on family's home and prayed with them.


We also met and prayed with a woman who recently lost her family. She has only 4 Baht (currency) to her name and asked our host for assistance. She'll make sure she has food in the future.


The clinic was fruitful in sharing the Word of Jesus to those in Bang Na. The team worked well together, as many of us have served together for the past few years in the same capacity. Although there was a large language barrier - none us us speak Thai - our 5 translators helped us learn basic terms to help us with our positions to provide reading and distance glasses to everyone who needed them.


Tonight, we visited Asiatuque, an outdoor shopping area and water promenade. We ate dinner and some of us tried a fish pedicure...


Word of the day: Service

Wednesday morning, we hop on a plane to northern Thailand, Chiang Rai Province. We'll be visiting more neighborhoods in that area of the country over the next week.

Travel day to Chiang Rai, northern Thailand

Our time in Bangkok has ended and we woke up early to head to the airport on our way to Chiang Rai in northern Thailand. We have four more days of clinic in the northern area, starting tomorrow. The people in this area speak a dialect that may require a secondary translator, so please be in prayer for good communication tomorrow. Clinic Day Four: Baan Doi Saloon

Today we visited a remote  village called Baan Doi Saloon. Only four years ago was the road paved - which is on a steep incline for a few miles to reach the community. Before the paved road, villagers would make a hike for supplies and visitors were scarce. Now, tourism is starting to seep into the community and the nearby casino in Laos is threatening their safety and way of life. But, the church has grown to over 40 families over the past 13 years. On the way to the village, we passed the famous Tham Luang cave where the soccer team was stranded in the cave. There were over 10,000 people involved in the rescue this time last year, which turned out to boon the town economy, but drain on the nation. Clinic Day Two: Ban Huay Ma Kaeng

Today we visited the community of Ban Huay Ma Kaeng, with over 800 residents. The people here speak Thai and a local language called lahu. For many of the people, we needed a translator for our translator - speaking English to Thai to lahu and back. God brought 103 people to clinic, including children. Many of the women in Ban Huay hand-sewed purses they sold at market. Eyeglasses have a direct impact on their livelihood - being able to see up close clearly left most super excited to go back home and be able to sew easier.
